CampCheck — Privacy Policy

CampCheck helps you check current campfire and fire-restriction rules for your exact location and find nearby points such as campsites, water, toilets, and fuel. The app is built to be offline-first and to collect as little data as possible. We do not show ads, we do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Information we collect

• Location (precise / GPS). With your permission (“While Using the App”), CampCheck uses your device location to determine the fire rules for where you are and to position you on the map. Verdicts are computed on your device. Your location is sent to our server only when you choose to submit a check-in (see below).
• Anonymous device identifier. The app generates a random identifier that is stored on your device and sent together with check-ins to prevent duplicate and abusive submissions. It is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, and we cannot identify you from it.
• Check-in submissions. If you submit a check-in (for example, a campsite crowding report), we receive the location, a timestamp, and the fields you select — such as crowding level, road type, and an optional short note.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or account credentials (the app has no accounts or login). We do not access your contacts or photos, and we do not collect advertising identifiers.

How we use information

• To provide the campfire and fire-restriction verdict for your location.
• To power the community crowding feature from submitted check-ins.
• To prevent abuse and keep submitted data accurate.

How information is shared

We do not sell your data. Aggregated, anonymized check-in summaries may be displayed to other users inside the app. Device identifiers and any free-text notes are never published or shared. We do not share personal data with advertisers. Data is stored on our own servers operated under campfirecheck.com.

Data retention

Raw check-in submissions are retained to operate and improve the service. Community data shown in the app is aggregated and anonymized. You can contact us to request deletion of data associated with your device identifier where it is technically feasible.

Your choices and controls

You can turn location access on or off at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services; the app’s location-based features depend on this permission. You can also simply choose not to submit check-ins.

Children

CampCheck is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Security

We use reasonable measures, including HTTPS for data transmitted between the app and our servers, to help protect information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
