California — statewide permit + NPS/FWS orders — Fire Restrictions
synced 1 day ago.
California requires a valid California Campfire Permit for ANY open flame — including camp stoves and lanterns — on most public land statewide, and dispersed campfires are restricted by default. Across California this is NOT a clearance: even where no specific local order is listed, you still need the permit, the area may be under a local fire order or a Red Flag Warning, and many places ban fire outright. Treat fire as not allowed unless you hold the permit AND have confirmed local conditions. The permit is free — get it in advance (you must carry it while camping).
